Tying flies

My wife grabbed this shot. I am listening intently, as my friend explains that the large bag of pheasant feathers I had saved for him would probably make a "million" of these little trout fooling flies. We then headed to a lovely mountain stream and played for a few hours. Catch and release and he let 'em go before I could wade up to his location and grab a picture. All in all, a good day. I won't be saving this year's rooster hides.
Cheers,
Jack

There is a unique, small fuzzy feather attached to the underside of a pheasant rump feather called a "phylo plume". It's great for simulating gillls on nymphs, especially larger ones

Some of the best dubbing I have ever used for nymphs is the down from the body feathers of upland gamebirds because it so readily absorbs water and will not hinder the sink rate of the fly. Conversely, the down of a duck or goose is great for tiny CDC dry flies. All down can be dyed any color you wish or can be used in its natural color.

I thought I would take advantage of the knowlege of some of our members that fly fish. My father gave these to me a few years ago before he passed away. Unfortunately I failed to listen real well to the details surrounding these. I believe he told me a friend of his gave them to him. They had belonged to his father how was a traveling fishing equipment salesman. The are clearly hand made displays. In information would be fun to know.
Thanks Phil
