Simmons barrels
This may have been discussed befor and if so I don't recall. Has anyone seen the finished product? How do they compare to the CSm barrels for fit, finish and price?
I see they will have OO frame 410 barrels this fall. This might be the least expensive way to get a 410...no IT WILL be the least expensive way. I have a VHE OO frame 28 that could benefit from a set of 30 inch 410's.:p |
Rich I could be wrong on this but I believe the biggest difference would be that with the CSMG barrels you would have to have them fit to your gun were as Simmons takes your receiver and dose the fitting for you so you get back a finished gun. I am pretty sure Simmons will be at the Vintagers and will have examples of the finished product. Perhaps there will be some pictures taken and posted for those that don't attend the show.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the Simmons barrels also have the correct matting on the rib which the CSMC barrels do not have.

I wonder if the ejectors will be expensive.

I will be at the Vintagers along with a few friends and will be looking for Simmons' fine example of their Parker barrels. Will definitely put an order or two in for o frame 20 gauge bbls. as I'm sure they will pay attention to detail of an original as Parker collectors will study and admire the craftsmanship long after they are in our possession. Tom Carter's 28ga barrels are today being fitted to the frame, in the white and being contoured. The doll's head fits fine. The top and bottom ribs are off and the barrel breach end is still proud of the frame standing breach. I know they are working on them and trying to complete.

I spoke to the owner of Simmons today. The OO frame barrels won't be started untill mid to late 2011. He needs a minimum of 5 orders to make the tooling profitable.
Cost is $2800 fitted to your gun. They come with the rib matting and serial numbered to the gun. No extra charge for ejectors. They will be regulated to point of impact per client specs and choked as desired. They sound awful nice and for the cost will make a nice two barrel set in 28/410. Beats spending $30K for a VHE 410 skeet gun. |
I received a call this past Sat and again Sun night from Reggy at Simmons to discuss the work they are doing on my 0 frame hammergun. Now,that is dedication to customer satisfaction. Reggy told me they had received an order for 500,yes 500, Parker barrels,2 per month from Delgego. With a current production capability of four per month this could create a long waiting list. If you are seriously considering ordering a set of barrels, I would suggest you do it NOW.

I spoke to Reggie a couple weeks ago about my own project and he said they are now making Parker parts for the Del Gregos. This includes things like cocking hooks, screws, small stuff like that.

I remember when I started a thread about the need and feasability of making new barrels last year and most said that it was not cost effective as there was not enough demand.I really hope this takes off for Simmons and that the barrels are "up to snuff" in every way.Ain't modern technology grand?
