New England Mixed Bag

Just returned from a trip with my 6 month old Ryman setter pup. One evening run produced this glorious bounty of two grouse and 3 bobwhites. Parker VH 20 gauge Brian Dudley restoration.

that was one of my questions

the other is - what kennel is the pup out of

John Nagel 10-19-2017 02:06 PM

The quail are most likely holdovers from spring training back in April that happened to survive and made home of the same abandoned orchard that the two grouse were taken in. Was a nice surprise to bust the covey. Was a hell of an evening. We had already limited on woodcock earlier that day.

But where in New England were you hunting?

.

:rotf: yeah GPS co-ordinates please :rotf:

out side of a couple of downstate counties in NY,which i would not call New England

i did not know there was quail hunting in the north east

John Nagel 10-19-2017 02:29 PM

It was either in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine.. I can't remember!

I sure am envious of all the nice bird varieties you guys have in the Northern Region. Here in Tennessee were are over ran in Turkeys and not much else these days. Dove hunting and Turkeys we have lots of. Quail have all but went away.

Very nice, John! Looks like your pup did everything just the way that you wanted her to do. I look forward to hearing more stories about your trip to New England when next I see you.

Sorry we missed you on our trip to Lovells. Spent a couple great days in the alder thickets with Dale Gray and his GSP's. We flushed lots of woodcock and enough grouse to be encouraging!! The Parkers performed admirably.

And we left some cash behind at the NBOC... LOL! You can always find something you need in a good fly shop, especially if it's got a hunting twist to it, as well!

Dave
