Michigan grouse hunting info needed..(-:
3 Attachment(s)
Hi all....I want to explore some new grouse hunting. Looking into a late September Michigan hunt on the Lame Duck foot access GEMS. Anyone hunted this area? Recommend lodging with one setter dog in tow? We will be near town of Alder and Gladwin. Not opposed to hunting one of the other gems if good hunting and place to stay available? This would be my first time hunting Michigan and would like to find a good area to hunt each September/October in future years. We are in Ohio and drive time is 8 hours to the Lame Duck gem. Thanks all...SXS Ohio

Kenny, I have a cabin around Gladwin, (61 and 30, Wooden Shoe) I have not hunted any of the GEM's area's but this year I want to give them a try so send me a pm and maybe we can hook up for a few hunts. Eric

Kenny, the only problem with late Sept hunt i s that the temps may be warm, and of course the foilage is still thick and green( guess that's 2 reasons). Bird numbers should be pretty
good, esp the woodcock. I hit the Up in late Oct, cooler and folage is down. Hopefully a couple hard frosts will hit in early Sept. Make sure your dog has good tick repellant/collar in place, deer ticks are nasty. |
Setter book end...Fox engraved
I used the setter as pattern for The belly engraving on my CSMC Fox XE spl. 16 Richard Roy did the engraving...sweet!

I have hunted some of the GEMS units in the U.P. with fair success so I would imagine it would be a good place to start.
