Design of American Doubles

"An Unbiased Look at the Design of American Doubles" by Dewey Vicknair.
Interesting read by a respected gunsmith:

I remember reading this post in the past, he was also not real "nice" to Parker either :corn:

Was he fair? Was he accurate, generally?

Brian Dudley 06-13-2017 09:39 AM

He is dead on about Smiths.

John Campbell 06-13-2017 10:34 AM

He's spot-on about all of them.

Pete Lester 06-14-2017 07:33 AM

Interesting read but I found it odd he discusses H&R but no discussion of Lefever or Remington doubles.

I wonder which guns he likes? British guns which seem to need to go back after each season for cleaning and adjusting?

Dewey has a fondness for AHFox as he has built two custom guns for my friend, one of them a slug gun. Both built on a Sterlingworth action.

Dewey did all the metal work on my project "Becker inspired" Fox. It is probably the best file work on a receiver I have ever seen.
