Parker lifter mechanism

I have a question about the lifter action. I have a 10 gauge lifter made in 1882 that you do not need to press the lifter to close the gun. I just bought a 12 gauge lifter made in 1876 that requires you to press the lifter so the action can close. Is this correct for this vintage gun? Was there a change between 1876 and 1882 in the closing design or does something need to be fixed inside the gun?

thanks for your help!

Your 10ga, 1882 liter is working as intended. The 12ga. gun is not working properly. The trip is either missing or dirty, or the trip spring is missing or broken.

Thanks Chuck. What does the trip look like and where is it located?

Chuck Bishop 05-20-2017 03:30 PM

The trip is a little tab located at the very bottom of the receiver well. When you close the barrels, the barrel lug pushes it down to release the bolt and top lever. It''s easy lost when the gun is taken apart. If you don't see extending out about 1/8" or so, it''s missing. It can be gunked up and sticking down, or the spring inside the trip is missing.

Can you see the tab with the barrels off? If I need these parts where can I get them?

Take the barrels off and look at the bottom of the well. If the top lever is at the 6 o'clock position, move the top lever over to retract the bolt. Look for the trip.
Parts are available.

There is no top lever. It is a lifter in front of the trigger guard.

Then push the lifter up to retract the bolt

I did that. The bolt retracts and I can close the gun. I do not see a tab or spring in the receiver well.
