the battery
In the Reloading Forum, I asked a question about replicating, as close as I can with modern components, the long range loads that came about with the specialty waterfowl guns like the Super Fox. and mentioned the three ideal Duck Guns I have lined up to hunt this year -
This weekend, I found a 1925 issue of "National Sportsman" that not only had a great full page Lynn Bogue Hunt illustrated ad for the Super-x shell - but also had a Fox Ad referencing the Super, a dedicated ad for the LC Smith Longrange and a Parker ad - although generic - does say they will build you a "hard shooting duck gun with a killing pattern at an extreme range" all the ads in one magazine SUPER-X http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=9217 FOX http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=9220 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=9221 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=9222 LC SMITH LONGRANGE http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=9218 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=8396 3 FRAME PARKER 12 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=9219 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=8319 DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS :corn: |
Can't wait to see that new, big 10 bore...and a decoy...and freshly killed duck this fall!
|
me too Gary- the big one is not mine but I hope to see it in action
my PH short 10 is a light little ten and a half pounder on a 3 frame- its the one dwarfing the pup in my avitar http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7738 |
I like that Ideal Long Range !
Of course the other two look nice as well  |
Now all you need to complete your goose/duck arsenal is an Ithaca NID 10 gauge 3 1/2" Magnum
|
:rotf,
actually- an Ithaca NID super 10 - have had a line on a couple earlier this year but they seem to have the chokes messed with more than Super foxes there had been one with some rust on the box on GI - but gone now I did see one of the 3 1/2's recently for sale at a non nose bleed price but - the PH 10 has a grade 2 hammer 10 to back it up - so, its not like being as desperate as being without a Super  |

When Western Cartridge Co. introduced their high velocity, progressive burning powder, Super-X load in 1922, it was essentially a progressive burning powder load put up in their FIELD shell --
Attachment 54568 About 1928, they added the SEAL-TITE wad -- Attachment 54569 and shortly thereafter also began offering their copper coated LUBALOY shot loadings at a premium price. In 1931 they introduced the non-corrosive priming -- Attachment 54570 In 1939, Western Cartridge Co., and most of our other ammunition companies, began offering the folded SUPER-SEAL CRIMP on their trap and skeet loads, but the world wide unpleasantness delayed the introduction of the pie crimp on hunting loads to the late 1940s. Western Cartridge Co. also added the SUPER-SEAL CUP WADS to their hunting loads after WW-II -- Attachment 54571 |

If you are playing in the vintage long range shotgun game, you need a Remington Model 31 pump or Model 11/Sportsman autoloader with the special LONG RANGE boring --
