Who engraved my 1887 Parker Grade 3 Top Lever?
Did Parker engravers leave their initials or other marks to identify who engraved the guns? I've poured over the engraving of my 1887 Grade 3 Top Lever and don't see anything, but thought I read elsewhere in this forum that some engravers did left their marks.

Tom, in 1887 there were two engraving contractors, or "chief engravers."
William Avery, from 1877 - 1887 and "Harry" Gough, from 1887 - 1898. Nobody can say for certain who did the engraving on your Grade-3. It is said that the engraving contractor engraved the game scenes while an accomplished 'understudy' engraved the scroll or filli gris... we'll never know for sure who did the work. Can you post some pictures of the engraving for us? . |
