Is it possible to import a barrel set to the states
 

I posted this over on the doublegun site and got a variety of answers, so I thought maybe I would ask here, has anyone done this and is it possible to do so keeping the price down? The barrels are in Canada.

There should be no issue importing barrels. The frame is the piece that is tracked/recorded, just because there is a serial number on the barrels doesn't mean they are subject to reporting.

Looking at this from the U.S.A point of view I think they can be sent directly to you. From the Canada viewpoint, I don't know? I sold a Parker Hammer gun to a member in Canada a couple of years ago and I used a FFL dealer (Can't remember who) that was fluent in gun transfers between the US and Canada and it was an easy process. It was also unbelievably fast, I think he had the gun in just two weeks from when I shipped it!

I wish I could remember who the FFL holders were for you, maybe the member in Canada can speak up, that's how I found them.

The barrels are not considered a "gun" or "firearm." Only the action (frame) is considered to be a firearm.

I had an 1886 hammer gun mailed directly to me from Canada... I think. I could be remembering wrong, but I think he mailed it straight from Canada. Age of the gun made that possible. He actually sent it in two pcs so as to reduce the chance of theft. I thought that was a good idea.

This is great guys, thank you so much, but unfortunately the store that has the barrels only ship within Canada, I still would like know incase I find someone in Canada to ship them to me, hopefully directly without any hang ups. I need to find some Canadian friends :)

Word of caution! The Mattie gun was engraved checkered case colored in 3 different regions of Canada, when it was done I had a hard time getting it out of Canada, seems they passed a law recently that even though the gun is an antique if it will chamber a modern shell then you can only send it by import export and they will stamp the barrels, Chris found a guy in Ottawa I believe, and I had to pay him to drive it across the border then all was well, The USPS took it no questions asked. Being just barrels, maybe, but I would be cautious, good luck Gary

Barrels are regulated and you need paper to send them to the US. For instance I can not send a barrel direct to Briley for choke work. They use a company in Ontario to ship I believe.
