CCI Primers

I have been offered 1,000 CCI 209 primers. What should I know about them?

They are about in the middle in terms of "Hotness",

Use 'em

Thanks very much John.

I would have accepted them as a gift anyhow, but would not have used them if advised not to.

Hmm now I have to look - I have a low pressure load using them saved someplace

Dean Romig 03-29-2017 09:17 AM

I don't reload 12's, do you have a load for 16's or should I not worry about using a "mid-range" CCI in place of the Winchester primers I'm using now?

CCI primers are a bit hot for my liking

I'd reduce your powder charge a grain or so and use them. You can load up 5 or so and send them to Tom Armbruster for pressure testing. Cheap insurance for a nice vintage shotgun. Primers are cheap shotguns not so much.

You could always get a primer chambered training pistol and be all ready for Gracie's understudy

Look closely, standard CCI 209 primers are mild, comparable to Remington 209P. CCI 209M (Magnum) are a hot primer similar to Fed 209A. I have substituted CCI 209 for Win 209's in every imaginable load for many years without issues.

Same as Mr Brooks,I switch CCI and Win no problems, not as critical in a low pressure load. Just my 2c, worth what you paid for it.:)
