Any feedback on RMC brass 16 gauge shells?
 

Was wondering if any one has any feedback on the RMC brass shells for shooting and hunting ?

Some of our members use Rock Mountain's 10 and 12 gauge shells and seem to like them.

Why use Rocky Mountain @$75.00 for a box of 10?
Magtech makes 16ga, and the last time I saw them they were, as all the other gauges, about $21.00 for a box of 25. Not everyone stocks 16, but Magtech's website says they still make them. The only place I know that has them in stock is Ballistic Products.
Fiocchi makes them under their name and the Alcan name also, and again, not on everyone's shelf, but used to be about $17.50 for ten.
At a buck a piece, I'd go with Magtech, but I'm cheap and use Cheddite at nine cents apiece.

I have the 10 gauge brass shells from RMC. I like them. Very well made and tight tolerances. I use them for shooting black powder and nitro. They are more expensive than other brands but the advantage with RMC is the shells are thicker and can be used with plastic wads for whatever gauge shell you are shooting. Perfect for those special loads for hunting.

All you need to get are 16 gauge over shot cards and Duco cement if you just going to shoot nitro. 16 gauge nitro cards and filler wads if shooting black. Another tip would be to get a wood loading block and a vintage powder / shot dipper to pour your shot in. Check Ebay searching "vintage shotgun reloading tools". These shells also use 209 primers so reloading is even made more simple.

You can get 16ga Magtec from all the major distributors unless they are out of stock. Last iI bought Precision reloading had them on sale about 6 months ago for $19.00 a box.

Big advantage of RMC cases is they will make obscure caliber gauge and length. Last a long time too, I ordered 20 For my 32/40 Schuetzen rifle many years ago and still using them.

Standard 16 G I don't think I would use RMC. But no reason not to either.

Where would be a good place to find recipes for 16 gauge 2 1/2?

Use fiber wads and 2 3/4" data. That way you can adjust the wad column height to fit.

The only Mag Tech brass I've used are the 24 gauge to make 577-450 cases. I'm impressed, just not favorably, many of them split on the first firing. I bought 100 brass 16 gauge cases that were made in Brazil many years ago and they have been great but are Berdan primed. I may convert them to 209 primers some day that is if I ever start shooting black powder breech loaders again.
