Need opinions...

Been in the market for a lightweight 28 gauge SxS gun for grouse/woodcock and have decided on a Parker Repro. However, I came across GI # 100816683 that's caught my attention, a 0 frame 28 gauge VH with recent case color by Brad Bachelder and non-original 28" barrels IC/IM from CSMC. The VH price is $4250, a few hundred less than a PR 28 gauge. Both guns will get the job done but for future value and resale what gun am I better off buying, an original PR or a redone VH with non-original barrels?

That's a good question, I have a PR in 28 ga and it's a great gun, the bones of the VH are great but what is the weight and how does it swing? Those would be the questions I would be asking.

A good question indeed ! If I were truly interested in the VH , I would send for a letter , our Data on this site says info.exists for Serial # 182947 ,and would find out if this was a real 28 Gauge O frame gun or a twenty gauge gun turned into a 28 Ga. with the after market barrels which by the way have an issue " as mentioned by the seller " with the rib extension ! Just my opinion but if you want a true small bore Parker and were spending around $4200.00 and this particular gun started life as a 20 Bore ,then I would look for a nice 0 Frame 20 Bore and buy it , if my heart was set on a 28 Gauge and also resale down the road is an issue as you mentioned , I would think resale would be easier with a DHE Grade ,28 Gauge Repro that was taken care of than this particular gun ,especially if it were a Double Trigger Gun with the Small Beavertail Forend ! JMHO ,Good Luck with your decision ! Russ :)

Regarding the GI listing, there isn't much about that gun that I find appealing, especially the fit of the dollshead. Could you live with that fit? I know I couldn't as it would drive me to asking myself 'What was I thinking?' every time I looked at it.

The reason I would want a 28ga would be the light weight for hunting, this guns weight is listed at 6 lb 12 oz. I have parker 12ga and 20ga guns that weigh less. With all the problems this gun has your much better off with a repro 28ga or a 20ga VH.

Repro unless this gun can be bought for less than three thousand. There are wonderful Repros out there that will never go down in value. This GI gun is a $700 back end with a set of
Repro barrels snapped on.

The repro is a better value and will hold value longer. The VH has had too much done to it and I my opinion is a $2500 gun.
