plain steel

well folks the ups man ran today left me a pacage that looked like it mite be a gun.well it was the plain still gun that i had bought. it was suppose to be a 12 ga. 30 inch barrels full and full choke. and suppose to weigh 9 pounds even. well the firt thing i done after getting it out of the box was to measure the chokes with the tried true methoid with a dime.. suprise surprise i needed a nichol to check the chokes with.. i said to myself must be a clyinder bore. next got me a 12 ga shell stuck it in the chambers. it was mighty loose got me a ten ga. shell it worked fine next i measured the barrels they were 30 1/8 inch. no they are not cut off. dont know about about weight but probablw close to 9 lbs. gun listed with good screws they are real good no sign of a screw driver on them. it is a plain steel barrelled gun .funny thing the parkers brothers makers meridan conn plain steel is wroteon the rib but you have to be on theright barrel side to read it. all in all i was pleased with gun has abuot 5 percent case colors left.dont know what kind of finish barrels had but it looks like most old guns . maybe they were blued dont look like nobody has reblued or anything.its a nice solid tight gun. thammers are the strongest ive ever seen on any gun.bores fair some pitting but looks ok. you can not tell by looking at the steel thats its not a more modern type of steel in the barrels. stock was never checkered. wood solid with steel but plate. trigger guard extension run half way down stock with 2 srews in it. well it was supposed to be a 12 ga but it tuned out to be a 10 ga but im happy with it any way. charlie

If you felt comfortable sharing the serial number with us someone might be able to tell you what the available records say about the gun

paul it is a ten ga. barels measure just over 30 1/8 inches. they are touching. in my opinion they have not been cut. and the hammer srings are the strongest ive ever incountered. i cleaned the gun up it looks good. the barrels are shiny but alas has some pitting. i ve got barrels that are pitted worse that i shoot all the time. i will probably not shoot this gun though because every one says the plain steel barrel guns are unsafe to shoot. what does anyone think about shootabilty of these guns. any one out there ever fire a plain steel gun before. these period of guns have no dolls head and almost no rib. charlie
