The A-1

I've noticed a certain A-1 at Crosnoe which, if it's the same gun, seems to be appearing and reappearing at different prices. Currently, it is in the lower range. I was wondering if someone could comment on the colors on the case. They look nothing like the more muted tones of the originals (one wouldn't expect them to I guess) and seem almost radioactively yellow.

The photography looks fairly accurate on the rest of the gun, so I've ruled that it must be an otherworldly coloration.

Wassup with this gun?

Looks OK to me, but for that price, I would rather have started with one of the unengraved guns at about seven grand and had it engraved by a human being. There are still a few of those out there.

This does not have the Oak and leather repro case the A-1 came with...It may not have been completed at PR and could be one of the guns sold in the white??? Quality of work could be in question as to who did the work and the true value of the gun.??? The seller may have additional info about it if you ask...I would not considder this gun untill it was in hand for a good look at the workmanship. There is a correct A-1 on gun broker for sale now to compare it with...just under 20K thanks all Kenny Graft SXS ohio...(-:

The case colors on this A-1, appear to my eyes, to those that have been done by John Gillette of Classic Guns, Inc. I have found that flash from a camera will bring out more of the straw/yellow colors, under natural daylight these colors are not nearly so accentuated. Here's another DHE Parker Repro that Classic Guns recolored for comparison---obviously not Parker Bros. colors, but nonetheless, very beautiful colors in their own right:

Is not that price on the Gunbroker A-1 Special a bit high. I bid on it but the bids zoomed past what I wished to pay.

Bill Murphy 07-06-2010 09:48 AM

Donovan, can you give us the item number on the one you were outbid on. I can't find such a gun on gunbroker. It seems the ones on gunbroker have yet to attract a bid.

Donovan Kirkpatrick 07-06-2010 05:51 PM

Bill. It is 177032388. Has been listed repeatedly. Started out with a reserve which no one hit. Finally they just put their desired price on it. I bid 15K and some one went to 16K+ in a prior listing.. As you can see we were no where close to 19800. I believe that is a bit much. Thus my question. Based on your previous comment, if the unengraved price was 7K and the engraver charged 10K, maybe I am wrong about the asking price. I prefer a 12 ga. but I like this gun.

One question I have is whether this gun is a first generation Gournet gun or is it one of Tony's unengraved guns that was sent to Gournet in the past few years. The seller certainly is leaving that to a bidder inquiry. What's up with that? No one except the customer really knows what was charged for the first generation GG guns, but we have a pretty good idea of the price of a raw unengraved Galazan A-1 Special. The question is, how do we tell them apart. I have never studied the markings on the original Gournet guns, nor have I studied the markings on the Tony guns.

Brian. I notice the Crosnoe gun has "Parker Bros" on the bottom of the receiver. I just looked at 12-0XX. It has Parker Bros" on the left side of receiver and has the wood and leather case with accessories. I do not know much about them but I am under the impression that 12-0XX represents one of the 125 factory engraved guns. I would question that about the Crosnoe gun.

I'd rather have this one, but it's too expensive too.
