Thanks... Does that mean ordering a letter wouldn't tell me anything about the gun ?

no it doesn't
checking the research letter link on the home page, it says factory records are available

The # is not in the Serialization Book but a check in the PGCA Letter section comes up that records do exist and a letter is possible.
