First Bird with my Short Ten

2 Attachment(s)
Took my newly acquired 1890 Short Ten NH duck hunting yesterday on the salt water. It was -1 degree at 5:45 AM at the boat launch:shock: The bay is filled up with wintering Canadian Geese Blacks and Mallards. Ducks and geese by the thousands rafted in the middle. It was sunny and they stayed rafted all day with some occasional high flyers. My buddy managed his one black duck and in the middle of the afternoon a lone mallard decoyed and I shot my first duck with my short ten. We have until January 8th this year to hunt. I'll be back out this Friday.

Very nice, the Short Tens are great fowling pieces. What were you using for a load in it?

Good luck on your next day out, Steve! The first time I took my 'New Baker' 10 grouse hunting, I managed to bring home three birds.

Pete, a load I got from Scott. Blue dot, #2 Nice Shot, SP-10 Wads, Federal Hull, two thin filler wads

I really like Black Ducks. Some of my best memories of living in Maine was jump-shooting them in Arrowsic with my Ithaca 37 16 gauge.

and how much blue dot ?? - you guys are like my grandmother's recipes - a smidge - a pinch - enough until it looks right :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Scott - do you know the pressure, although most of my tens have walls thick enough to take on dynamite - I do baby the little one.

BTW - if we keep building the following for these great guns - we'll need a separate forum here

it'll look like this
general - hammer - short tens - singles - repros -
