Parker Devaluation?
I am a Parker Repro shooter and considering having screw in chokes installed in a gun I shoot often. Does anyone have an idea of how much the gun value would drop with this modification?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts. Steve Kleist Ely, MN |
I would expect a 10-20 percent haircut for that. You never know though, buyers are all different.
(interesting - I'm posting this from 35,000 feet, wifi on the airplane, first I've seen of that) |
I agree with Dave at least 20% but I have never seen that done so I don't have anything to go on

Steve, if you like the gun well enough that it is your "go to" shooter then make it how you want it. You'll probably never sell it anyway if you make it even better for your own purposes so don't worry about the value.

I think installing choke tubes in a Parker Repro it would be like cutting off the skeleton butt and installing a longer, soft pad. The gun would be much more functional but the collector's value would fall very much!

I regret to this day not buying a 1 1/2 frame GH 12, that someone had installed screw in chokes. the price was $1700. MY reason, the collector value was gone. But my thoughts now are, someone else did what I would not do to make the gun more functional and I should have bought it. So if the above devaluation is only 20% that a lot cheaper than having two or three more guns to meet your needs. You will shoot better using one gun.

Seriously - I agree on the market devaluation - but, at the same time - agree more that you'd probably "increase" the personal value to you... Well said guys... As well - if you kept it for a few years - I think it would be a "wash" with today dollars - as I *never* anticipated Repro pricing to rise as quickly as it has in just a few years..?? John |
One other thought... Be careful who you have do it. Brileys told me they usually won't do a thin wall job on a repro because the walls are too thin.

A 20 gauge single barrel set Repro with single trigger is sometimes a hard sell even at a bargain price. Such a gun would be a great candidate for screw in choke installation.

Cabela's had a 20 ga. w/ screw chokes for sale a few months back, the asking price was in the running with all the other repro's and it sold in just a few weeks. I think Briley needs .032" wall for screw chokes.
