Parker or Remington made?
I own a VHE 20GA Skeet s/n 240689. And i'm curious about it's origin. It has no marking on the barrels, rib or receiver to indicate Meriden or Ilion production. Barrel flats have skeet out/in and proof marks. Right water table has Parker Bros. and patent date. Grip Cap has Parker Bros Meriden Conn. Does the apparent absence of marks have any meaning? Transition to Remington?

I'm not sure, but your gun seems to be beyond transition. I would consider it a true Remington gun if "PARKER" were stamped on the bottom of the receiver. I'm thinking that the Meriden markings were just pre-manufactured and stamped parts.

Thank you for the reply. It is engraved PARKER on the bottom just rear of the hinge pin. That suggests Ilion made?

Your 240689 was made in 1937 - the year that Remington moved the Parker operation to Ilion. Whether is was made before the move or after would be difficult to answer but there must be some reference stating the first Parker serial number completed in Ilion.
The Meriden grip cap, for instance, was used well after the move to Ilion as were several of the other Parker Bros. overstock that went to Ilion along with all of the original Parker Bros. machinery. . |
