Foreend lug marking

1 Attachment(s)
Cleaning my 16ga GH, 85947 I noticed an x stamped on the bottom of the foreend lug. My VH made 20 years later doesn't have this. Curious to know what that mark signifies. Thanks guys

Probably an inspector's mark.

Thanks Dean

This X mark is observed on some other areas on Parker guns as times. And, other than Dean's suggestion. There are no others that make any real sense.

Of course some of the others are actually + stamps rather than X stamps, though they are so similar in appearance.

The + stamps often seen on the breech end of barrel flats are believed by some collectors to indicate an overbored barrel.

My 1890 C barrels have the same "X" stamp on the lug.
