Shot a few dove this evening
Season opened here in AZ on the 1st but for a number of reasons I had not gone out. Had scheduled a hunt with a friend today, but when I called this afternoon his plans had changed.
So I Kicked back in the easy chair and watched a movie with my wife. About 3:30 the phone rang and it was my friends son asking if I would like to go out and shoot some dove. By then I was pretty lazy and told him possibly we could go next week. Hung up the phone and headed to the easy chair. My wife looked at me and said well....??? That was Patrick wanting me to go dove hunting. Well go then my wife said. That's all the prompting I needed to get the lead out of my arse and make a call back to Patrick, get out my Parker VH 20 with 32" barrels. I met up with Patrick at 5:00 just off the highway and by 5:30 we had the dove decoys and Mojo dove set up. We shot till dark. Patrick shot 13, and I managed to scratch out 9. Not a bad last minute hunt. While cleaning the dove and enjoying chatting with Patrick I realized how much I had enjoyed this last minute hunt and how I could have missed out on a great dove hunt had I let laziness get in the way. Charlie it's Full and Full with factory 2 7/8" chambers. Really a great dove gun for the high flyers. Yesterday it was a little tough. Birds were coming out of the west at sundown so I had to stand behind a berm to stay in the shade and block the sun from blinding me. Most birds unless they came over further down the dike were on top of me before I knew it. Resulting in some fast going away shots. Still a lot of fun and we are lucky to hunt farmers fields open to the public. Planning on a hunt in the morning but they are predicting 2" of rain. We agreed to a 4:30 AM call before we head out. Down here we would rather the good lord send us rain rather than sunshine. We will just plan around his decision LOL.
