16 gauge 0 frame
How many 16 gauge guns were made on the 0 frames?
|
Many thousands I would think.
The books generally do not indicate the frame size. If a 16 gauge gun was ordered to be "light" or under a specified weight we can presume it was built on the 0-frame but that's about all we have to go by. . |
I personally think that many more 0 frame 16g. guns were made than many would think.

Just because it's an O frame doesn't mean it"s a light gun. Wood density, ejectors, BTF, VR all add weight. I have a couple of O frame 16's that are actually heavier than some of the #1 frame guns.
|
Not to mention barrel length. Most 0-frame sixteens have 26" barrels while most 1-frame sixteens have barrels of 28" and longer.
. |
I have two 16's (ok there are more:whistle:) both with 28 inch barrels and the O frame gun is heavier than the #1 frame gun. Barrel length would add additional weight as well so it's unfair to label all O frames as light weights.

Well my new to me 16ga on a 0 frame is waiting for me after this travel trip. Will have to compare it to my 16ga 1 frame that was my Grandfather's that my Dad gave the me when I retired from the Navy. Thank you Dad! He totally shocked the hell out of me.

Interesting, three 16 gauge Parker, all 28 inch barrels are:
VHE #1 frame barrels 3 lb 5 oz, gun weighs 6 lb 12 oz, VH #1 frame barrels 3 lb 8 oz, gun weighs 6 lb 13 oz, slim stock like an O frame. VHE #0 frame barrels 3 lb 3 oz, gun weighs 6 lb 9 oz, VH #1 frame barrels 3 lb 11 oz, gun weighs 7 lb. 1 oz, 12 ga. 28 in. barrels. GHE 1 1/2 frame barrels 3 lb 9 oz, gun weight 7 lbs. even. 12 ga. 28 in. barrels. I like all these but I shoot the O frame better than any of the others. Interesting how each is different, how the overall weight changes but each still has the feel of a custom built gun. All have a 14 1/8 to 14 3/8 lop. |

I'm a rookie at these but that sounds really light to me.
