Parker/Lefever

There was discussion about comparison of Parker and Lefever engraving.

Here are two guns generally equivalent in grade and engraving and made about the same year. One is a Lefever E with chain Damascus , the other a C Parker with Bernard.

Very, very close in coverage and execution of engraving.
I do, however, prefer Joe Loy's dogs' heads and faces over those on the Parker.

Thanks for those comparisons Bruce.

Just to pick a nit -- A Parker Bros. CH was a $150 gun, while the Lefever E-Grade was their $100 price point gun, more a match to a DH Parker. The C-Grade was the Lefever $150 gun.

Still, both guns shown are great guns and fine examples of their dog styles.

I see no Loy signature on that Lefever.

Oops I didn't mean to thumbs up. I neither agree or disagree. It's said by those who know more than me that it is likely Joseph Loy.

Truth be told, Bruce, I wouldn't claim an experts eye either. I just have seen enough Lefevers which had the typical Loy "brackets, " that I wonder why he would ever engrave others without them.

Nor do I, but it is my firm belief that those are his dogs. It is a known fact that most engravers, even the best like Loy, didn't sign all their work, especially on the lower grade Guns.
