Apparently Foster Invented More Than Skeet
Just picked up these couple of pieces of paper that I thought some of you William H. Foster fans might find interesting. Apparently he didn't just invent the game of Skeet, he also invented an archery game called "Ye Archers Sport of Chevy Chase". The first pic shows the cover of the rule booklet with artwork by him, inside the cover it reads:
"We wish to thank our friend Mr. W.H. Foster, for his ideas and suggestions from which the game Chevy Chase has been worked out. We are especially grateful to Mr. Foster for the attractive drawings with which this booklet is illustrated." The second pic is another booklet with the same artwork is sort of a catalog of archery supplies. Both of these are from The Archers Company out of Pinehurst, North Carolina. What's really wild about the Chevy Chase game is that it's done on a half circle very similar to skeet. The dates I can find in this stuff are the late 20's. If any of you Foster fans are interested in these feel free to make me an offer via PM. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...sterPaper2.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...osterPaper.jpg |
Cool stuff Destry. I doubt you'll own these for too long... You should try to scan it as a pdf so others can at least have that. How many pages is it?

The yellow rule book is 18 pages full of Foster illustrations.
The white is a fold out with five segments back and front. The cover art is obviously his as it says it is on the other, but I don't know about the few inside sketches. I barely know what a PDF is, I had to get somebody else to take the couple pics that I've got here. *laughs* Destry |
Destry - PM sent.... as expected

Don't let it get away, Dean. The young man has to make a living.
