RST 12 ga spreader
Has anyone patterned this new load? I have patterned another brand and found lots of holes and hope this one is better.

I haven't patterned them, but I have smashed clays and killed early season birds with them. They are great on 25 yard and in targets, especially showing belly/dome, and I love the "woodcock" loads, spreaders with #10 shot. XX on the score card and full game pouches are good things. :)

Dave, unless you are on a vendetta against RST, you should reread your original post. RST and Bill Murphy like the results they have gotten from RST spreaders. Maybe you should pattern a few before you determine that they probably won't work. What's going on here?

WTH are you talking about? I love RST, shoot about 30 cases a year. Good people and good shells. What are you trying to stir up Murphy? |
David,
I have patterned them through 3 different 12 gauge guns. Out to 30 yds., the only gun I had a slightly irregular pattern from was a german gun with a .716 bore size. Both of my Parkers showed very nice patterns. Austin |
A lot of it will depend upon your guns constriction.
Definitley pattern them. I used them (for the first time) at the flurry at the Fall Southern. I used them in a gun with 40 thous choke in each barrel and they gave me about a modified pattern. Great product. In my experience RST makes nothing but excellent products. IMO if you are shooting a spreader out of a already open choked gun you are handicapping yourself. (IC choke or skeet or cylinder) is not really a combo for spreaders unless the target is les 10 yards or less from you. (not a good combo because of the holes in the pattern) |
My own spreaders loaded with Polywad disk work well in tight chokes on close targets. One Parker I own that's open choke from the factory, polywads open too much and have holes in the patterns. Have put them on paper in the full choked guns at 10 20 & 30 yards. 20 is the practical maximum distance. Suspect this is true of all spreader loads.

Thanks guys. I am ordering some tomorrow. The left barrel on my lifter is pretty tight and a handicap on some true pairs.

Very hesitant to recommend anything on the double gun site, but very long thread working called "Pattern Theory". About page 4 John Campbell posted some photos of his spreader patterns at 50 feet. He's usually on the 16 G site rarely on double gun, and in my opinion has the best information on spreader loads. Nice fellow too. Most of my spreader education came from his information.
Have a look at his photos, want more search on 16g.com William |
Dave, I've got a whole case of RST Spreaders in 12ga, 1 1/8 oz #8 shot (papers). You're welcome to shoot a box next week if you want to try them before buying a whole flat. I can bring them to Drake's on Wed.
