28 ga Repro Doubling
28 ga Repro i posted earlier about this gun .I bought it, shot it today , it doubles. from what i"ve read this could be dirt or hardened lube ? The store i bought it from says they will take care of the issue at there cost any other opinions of possible causes unfortunately i do not have a lot of experience with single trigger box lock guns Thank You for all your responses Don Morgan

Don,
The wrong "gunsmith" can really screw up a single trigger gun, especially Parker. Before turning it over to the local truck mechanic working part time in the back room of a local gun shop I'd ask a lot of questions. See if they would agree to send it to someone that members of this Board might recommend. Bob Jurewicz |

The second generation (and also Parker Repro) SST is pretty reliable in its clean and un-altered state. It may just need a cleaning or maybe it has some other issue. Is it doubling when the selector is utilized? in other words, is it doubling only when firing right first and not left, or either way? It could be a worn sear tip on one side causing it to slip under recoil. Thus not being an actual trigger mechanism problem.
Anyway, I have heard good reports on trigger repair work by Abe Chaber and Dewey Vicknair. |
28 Guage doubling
Hi Don, We have used Clay Target Sports in Princeton Nj for any doubleing problems that have cropped up. Chris Maest is great with them. His number is 609-921-9358, Thanks

I had a doubling issue that was successfully repaired by Dewey Vicknair. Dewey said there was a cast component that was not fitted properly and displayed a few file marks that were indicative of an attempt at proper fitting. Dewey refit the part, and expended a whole box of cartridges in an attempt to get the gun to double, and failed. Good Luck!

Mark, that is exactly what was the issue with my last Repro 28. Abe took care of it for me.

Diagnosing and repair of doubling in Parker SST:
1. Both hammers fall at the exact same time - one loud report. This usually indicates that the barrel selector has not fully seated in one position or the other. The selector may exhibit stiffness when changing barrels or may not remain fully in one position or the other. A properly operating selector should only require moderate effort to move and have a tactile response as the spring slide engages the detent. The barrel selector is secured to a spring slide with a brass drift pin inside the receiver. This pin can slide out of position with use and come into contact with the trigger causing the selector to remain out of position and drop both sears at once. This is quite easy to repair. 2. Hammers fall sequentially - zipper like report. This kind of doubling indicates a worn sear - recoil of first shot cause second sear to slip and drop the hammer. Usually occurs when selecting a particular barrel first. ex. Selecting right barrel first - no double; selecting left barrel first - frequent doubling occurs. Repair requires worn sear to be reground. Not a particularly simple repair. Hope this helps. |
Does anyone have current phone numbers for Abe Chaber or Dewey Vicknair?
