Need advice
I'm thinking of buying a 16 ga. GH,#0 frame,damascus,2 1\2 chamber gun.Any opinions on what loads to use in this gun.
|
RST Classic Shotshells is all I use in any of my 16 0-frames.

Very light!

Yes, light loads are best for old doubles made on the 0-frame.

Your gun would have been patterned with a load of 7/8 oz and 2 1/2 drams powder. That is also the load recommended in Parkers Small Bore Shot Gun brochure. Later guns increased the shot load to 1 ounce .
The only commercial loader making a 7/8 oz load that I know of is RST . Hand loads are an alternative. |
I would reload the shells at 7/8 or 3/4oz.
|
I also have a GH 16 damascus O frame. I shoot 3/4 and 7/8 oz loads in 2 1/2 hulls I have reloaded.I used 7/8 oz of #7's for pheasant this year( released birds) and they worked fine. I enjoy my GH, it is from the mid 1890's, but the barrels had been cut from 28 t0 27".

I too have a 0 frame P grade 16, and shoot the 2 1/2 RSTs, unless I run out, then shoot 1 0z low brass 2 3/4 target loads.
