Wow...A 16 Ga that tuned to be a20 Ga!!!

I was a sucessful bidder on this 16 Ga Gastinne-Renette SxS. I posted some pics of the gun at the Doublegunshop.com forum while waiting for it to get here. Some members suggested the gum might actually be a 20 Ga, judging from the barrel markings. The gun finally arrived today and it is in fact a 20 Ga!!! This is the second gun I have bought at an auction that has "shrunken" from a 16 to 20.
It is in a very good condition, aside some light rust underneath the action and the barrels. It is #2 from a pair. Barrels are about 27.75" long with mirror bores, Chambers are marked as 65". Checkering is very fine. Weight is 5lbs 10oz.

Looks quality! all over....sweet deal!

That is not a bad problem to have. Unless you really want a 16g.

The problem that presents itself now that you own that gun, No. 2 of a pair, Where is No. 1?
You need to put them back together again.....

I have thought of that. How do you go about in trying to locate pair 1?

An ad in DGJ? I've seen a couple similar inquiries there.

Matched Pairs

They usually have an ad in the Double Gun Journal. Great to work with, they are looking for Gun 1 & 2 for a Wesley Richards drop lock set of 3.

One might also consider this resource:

Good luck with putting them back back together. A LOT of paired guns come out of Europe separately. I have a nice JD Dougall that is one of a pair. The website shown above looks like an interesting place to start.

Probably a good way to do it is to trace it backward through each sale until you find when and where they were separated... then follow the other one through its successive sales.

Be prepared for an early dead-end.
