20 gauge Skeet

I will be looking at a 20 gauge today that I believe is a skeet gun. If I recall it is a late model Remington gun made in the early 40's. It has a checkered butt, PG stock, 26" barrels. I have a few questions. As I recall it has double triggers. I am not sure if this is correct for a skeet configuration. Also would the records reflect if a gun was a skeet gun or not?

The records will not specify "Skeet Gun".

The most common configuration for Skeet guns; 26" barrels, double ivory beads, choked "Skeet Out" right barrel, "Skeet In" left barrel and stamped as such, ejectors, beavertail forend, SST, straight grip, checked butt, none automatic safety.

Some Skeet guns were made with a pistol grip.

There are DelGrego "converted" Skeet guns out there.

I will try to post pictures tonight. We are going quail hunting this morning and will be shooting this gun. Its all original finish, a fair amount of honest wear.

Skeet guns should have a non automatic safety as well as skeet in/out on the barrel flats and a beavertail fore end. The right barrel should be skeet out or the tighter constriction of the two.

Looks like there are records on the gun. Unfortunately Remington I understand did not keep track of who ordered the guns. It does show up in the Serialization book. Showing option 11 which is Ejectors and large Forend. Chokes are .010 RT and .015 Left. Double triggers, capped pistol grip, checkered butt.

It must of been an exciting day Phil with the prospects of hunting with and then purchasing a new Skeet Gun especially in 20 Gauge ! As for the Remington IBM information ,you are correct but as with everything Parker there always seem to be an exception ! A certain 20 Gauge I purchased years ago ,I just recently decided to attempt to chase the Provenance ,I decided years ago ,no point in a letter but just last month ,I decided to give it a go and what do you know ,there was a name attached to the IBM and the Initials on the guns Silver Oval matched perfectly !

It most certainly was a pretty neat day. It actually snowed on us for the first half. ( I know Chris Dawe will not believe that after he hunted this same area a few weeks ago and we could not carry enough water for the dogs.)

Shot a few birds so it was a great day. Really like the gun and have taken some pictures and will post more of them in the morning.
