Champion RC 4 Shotgun Shells
 

Saturday I shot Wobble with several boxes of Champion RC 4 Excellence Trap Shells. Loaded at 24 grams of 7 1/2 shot at a velocity 1360 and the representative told us the PSI is only 8,000. I'm totally impressed with the shell performance and the light recoil. The challenge is they are not a inexpensive shell to purchase.
Has anyone else had experience with these shells? What do you think?

No experience with those, but I can reload the same shot weight @ 1325 fps and 7400 psi. Have you ever considered reloading? A box of 25 shells with a 24 gram payload sets me back about $ 4.75

I've reloaded for years and have several pet loads for the various games and my antiques but those RC 4 were special.

Just wondering, what was special other than the price ?

Little no recoil and throw a great pattern, both down range and at the pattern board. The pattern on the board was consistent with three different guys shooting and different guns.

Austin, What ga. are you shooting and would you mind sharing your recipe?

In my IMR manual they show some loads with discontinued PB or 7625 as low as 5700psi. With 18.5grs of 700X, mild primer, and a CB-1100 or 2100 wad it's 8500psi at 1325fps. Or the same combo with 15grs/1150fps/5500psi, 16grs/1200fps/6350psi, or 17grs/1250fps/7200psi. If it were me I'd stay around 17grs/1250fps/7200psi. I don't really see a reason for more than 1200/1250 fps - the faster shot starts, the quicker it slows down and I like a little less recoil. If someone likes the 1325fps loads, go for it.

My Wobble and Bunker Trap load;
Remington 209 primer
19 grains of 700X
7/8 grains of shot.
Winchester Hulls

I shoot these loads in either of my Browning Superposed with 32 inch barrels.


Second shot in Wobble can be a long shot and that is was intrigues me with 1370 with limited recoil.

I hunt with my Parkers or Foxes so totally different loads.

I use Red Dot powder now since I have just managed to snag a four year supply of it. I wanted to work up a fast load to use with a spreader insert, and while it is true that faster loads lose their velocity faster, it is also true that spreader inserts are more efficient at high speed, and I don't use them for targets that can't be hit within 25 yards.
As for my load, for my use only, and in my gun only: 24 grams #8 shot...Remington Nitro 27 once fired hulls...Fed. 209 primers...Rem. TGT 12 wads with a 20 gauge over shot card at the bottom of the wad, and a Ballistic Products X insert....19.5 grains of Red Dot finishes the load. The PSI is a close estimate, and the velocity is what my chronagraph indicates at 2 feet from the muzzle.

I was surprised to read Tom Roster's testing of hulls which had been fired once, versus those fired many times. Apparently made no difference in the velocity. At least once-fired hulls look better
