Setters and Parkers
 

It's been 35 years since I last owned a Llewellin setter and want to get back to one. Would like to know from Parker owners what breeders/trainers could be recommended to talk to in Mid-Atlantic and New England for puppy or started dog. I'm a stickler for what I'd like; male, FDSB registered, tri-color, 45-55 lbs. when mature and good field/home companion. Our family had a long history in breeding setters going back to 1880's including breeding lines to early American Llewellin's so pedigree is important. Recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

My highest recommendation goes to Legh and Jenn Higgins, owners of Coronation Kennels in Lowell VT. Their pride, the Twombly line of English setters started in 1926 by founder Earl Twombly. Corey Ford's "Cider" and later "Tober" were of the Twombly line and he and Earl were good friends.

My "Grace" is a Twombly setter and is a fine example of the Llewellin breed.
She is 49 lbs. Her mother is 45 lbs and her father is 70 lbs.

Grace is a tri-color with brown ticking on her lower legs and her muzzle.

Although not Llewelyn. My setter comes from Northwind Setters out of WI. It is a great bloodline and has produced some great close working grouse dogs one of which is in the latest issue of PDJ. My dog is around 53 lbs and won't get much bigger as he is almost two years old. Ann and Skip run the breeding program and have recently brought some dogs in from England to keep the inbreeding to a minimum. Check them out http://www.northwindsetters.com

I would highly recommend Jornada Setters in New Mexico. My Star was a one year old started dog from Dennis and I have had a great experience from him. Great dogs, great genetics, and great training. It doesn't get any better than that:)

If you're in NE you need to check out Grouse Ridge Setters. Very nice dogs bred for the foot hunting grouse hunter. All in what style you want.
