Wisconsin Grouse Camp

Just got back the other day from my trip up north to chase Grouse and Woodcock. Was able to knock down some birds with my Trojan 16ga even with some young dogs and bird numbers low.

Nice post....looks like you had a great time. I was in Wisconsin for two days of grouse hunting and saw birds. They tell me grouse numbers are up from last year there. SXS Ohio

Looks like a great trip! Blessed Octobers!

Pretty setters!! That's a good looking Trojan too. I've had a couple of 16 gauge Trojans and they both were excellent grouse guns.

Thank you! They're great dogs just as home in the field as they are in your lap. This was my first trip and hunt with the Trojan and it was just an all around pleasure to carry. I think if you look at drumming counts alone it would indicate bird numbers up. But they're are many flaws with the way those are done. My trip last year to the same place is WI was much more productive with more birds moved and killed.

Thanks for posting all those great pics, Chaz. Sounds like a grand time was had by everyone. Well, except for the birds, of course. I've got a 16 gauge Trojan that serves as my go-to bird gun and wouldn't take anything for it.

Hey Chaz...any grouse in WV to hunt? I hear that there are some. SXS ohio

If you're looking in the right places I hear it's not too bad. Unfortunately I am in the southern part of the state and the old coal strip mines which used to provide great cover have all grown up and of course the four wheeler traffic has increased which hasn't been good for the birds. My dog is still young so when I'm home i try to do more preserve hunts just to get more exposure on birds. As my dog get's the hang of this grouse thing i'll get him out in the hills searching for some WV birds.

Chaz, I am on the other end of the state in the northern panhandle, Wheeling, and no birds here any longer--or across the river in Ohio
