NEW CUSTOM SLIP CASE
1 Attachment(s)
After trying dozens of slip cases over the years I decided to have a custom slip case made to provide me with I wanted. I wanted a case that would last 2 lifetimes, hold securely any shotgun I wish to put in it. Something that would not hold moisture, protect the gun, handles and straps that would hold up, be attractive and capture the old technics of of the old saddle makers.
The case is made out of real thinned cow hide on the outside and lined with a tough but soft chap leather stitched in the inside. 1/2" leather plug at the barrel end, and double solid brass made in America old stock buckles with straps made thick belt leather. Handles are heavy nylon rope covered in cowhide. Length 54" opening 9" across. Finally a simple Mearns quail tooled on the flap. The opening allows access for your forearm to reach in and pull out shorter, and smaller Guns. Works great. Just wanted to share the end result. Attachment 43964 |
Very nice case Phil. Can you tell us about what we can expect to pay for such a case?
Beautiful table and chairs, by the way. Is that white ash? . |
Dean I paid $600.00 to have this custom made. That said, I have known the shop owners for years. They closed the shop last year and retired, but will still do an occasional job for me.
The case was left the natural, and not dyed. They assured me it will take on its own natural color and patina with a little dog slobber, bird blood, sweat, Gun oil and powder residue. On the table you are correct from what I recall. Bought the table and chairs from a local shop about 30 years ago. http://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/50294_1024x765.jpg http://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/50295_768x768.jpg http://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/50296_768x768.jpg |

This is a four box shell case made by the same craftsmen
that made Phil's slip case. It is sad to hear they have stopped work as they are great artists and fine people. Phil referred me to them several years back. David |
I had forgotten how well that she'll case had turned out.
