Original Barrels on a Parker GH?
An acquaintance of mine owns a GH 12, serial number 85282. The gun was reconditioned when he bought it years ago. The work on the gun appears to be very well done. The same serial number is located on the barrel flats. The steel barrels are also marked "V 3" barrels". There is no writing whatsoever engraved on the rib. Does anyone have an opinion whether these barrels are original or replacements? Also can someone tell me if information is available from the Parker list?

Gordon,In that era the GH would have had damascus barrels.Sounds like the gun was refitted with a set of Remington era VH (Vulcan) steel barrels. I say this because you mentioned that there is no rib legend.
|
And Remington stamped the serial number on the flats rather than on the side of the lug as Parker Bros. had done it.
Does "V3" indicate a Remington code? |
Unfortunately, until we see pictures, we don't know whether the stampings are original or whether the rib is a Parker rib.

Remington Vulcan Rib

If it is a Remington Vulcan Rib, would be marked like this.

Actually, around the time of the move to Ilion Remington began using ribs with the Parker rib matting only with no legend at all. I don't know exactly when or with which serial number but it was after 1936 to the best of my knowledge.

I had forgotten that bit of Ilion trivia. Look forward to some pictures.

It wasn,t to very late in Remington/Parker production that true Remington matted ribs were used.
