What do you guys use in 410?

Thinking about picking up a model 42, I quail hunt a ton and thought it'd be a fun challenge, what do you guys use and what other American guns should I look for?

Well, for starters, how about a nice little Parker .410?

or wait for Thomas to post one for sale- maybe a nice little hammer gun

Parker .410, $26,000. Model 42, $1,500. It's your choice. I shoot both and don't see a bunch of difference in the "Fun" factor. They are both a hoot when we are shooting them.

Michael,

My go to dove and quail gun all my life has been the .410, unless conditions call for more gun. I shot a Citori superlight for some time, then a grade V Browning model 42 for a couple of years...but just cannot stand leaving empties on the ground. The last 9 years I have primarily used a Mark DeHaan, custom made HUGLU, sideplated boxlock, miniature frame, with exhibition grade wood, english stock and SSBP, 27" barrels and chokes Mod/Mod...Have put easily 100 flats through the gun...and have not yet had to put a screw back in time. I will post some pics of the gun tomorrow...I spent about $4,000 on the gun new nine years ago,and have had several friends order them since.....

I've got an Iver Johnson Skeeter 410 I've been shooting for about 40 years now . Also have a Crescent Arms 410 that I picked up a couple years back . As well as some Austrian Prussian over and under 410 that's also been here a good 25 years . The 410 I shot the best was my old K-32 with Kolar AAA 410 tubes .

I'd like to know where Bill can get a M42 for $1500 esp if it's a solid rib or even a Simmons vent rib. The 42 is a great and fun gun. I let a solid rib skeet go years ago and it's one I still regret selling.

Currently a CSM Fox FE in 410 goes to Georgia with me for Quail.

So I just bought to magnum length Mausers, so the 26k Parker prob ain't happening this year, what do you guys think of the Lefever nitro special?

John Dallas 08-10-2015 10:54 PM

You couldn't buy my M42 for $8K. I bought it 15 years ago as an unfired factory vent ribbed 28" gun choked "skeet". Would be one of the last guns I would sell, along with a High Standard Olympic .22 Short

I shoot a Charles Hellis. 2 1/2" with ejectors 26" barrels over the last 15 years. Love it. just the older I get, the more I like 28 ga
