New Season Starting Early....

Hard for me to believe, but in exactly 10 days I'll be opening the waterfowl season. Jeff Pelayo has invited me up to knock the dust off the old 10 gauge and shoot some resident geese in North Dakota. I never dreamed any season opened this early in the USA! Here's a picture from last season to get the blood flowing.

I have all of the 10 gauge Parkers I need. An Ithaca Mag 10 is getting tempting

the geese have their flight feathers back just in time- saw the first flight of the "fall", first geese in the air in a while here- go by on Wednesday. Early season is not until September here - but i still love to hear them on the move

Jeff and I were starting to sweat a little, but I think we're going to be ok. The only geese he had been able to find were going from big water to wheat he couldn't get permission on. We logged a bunch of miles on these long straight roads this afternoon and saw nary a wing. Just as we were about to give up we spotted a pod of geese on a large lake. Driving closer we found about 200 scattered feeding on a fresh cut wheat field with not a posted sign in sight. Cross your fingers boys, going to be tough to hide in that short stubble but we're going to give them a try.
