1 Attachment(s)
It is a rainy day and it is Friday! so here you go, Edgar this gun would look good in one of your cases, Hint Hint, The gun is nothing fancy but it does not have to be, for me to like it. The letter I have has the barrels wrong, The gun has 30" Lam and 26" Dam barrels, letter says vice versa, hope to get 8 photos to follow, Gary

Gary - that is a wonderful Parker and the first Grade 1 T/A I've ever seen with that engraving. I have later Grade 1 T/A's from 1892 and 1893 that do not have that engraving and I find it odd that they don't.
Compare that engraving with that of a Grade 1 (or P Grade) hammerless which started in production a little over a year after yours was made and you'll see where the engraving shop at Parker Bros. got the idea for the PH engraving motif. A wonderful example Gary - Thanks for sharing that gun with us. |
Gary, since you mentioned the discrepancy between the barrels and the letter, I revisited the books. Both the order book and stock book show Laminated barrels for both sets so the letter is wrong. The lengths are correct. Also, this is a Quality I (the I meaning it has Laminated barrels. If it were a 12ga, it would be a Quality L) It's one step below a Quality G which would have Damascus steel barrels. Determining grade is difficult in this time period due to all the different letter designations given to guns depending on grip type, gauge, and barrel steel. I guess if you want to put a grade number to it, it would be a grade 1 but it's the most expensive of the grade 1's.
If you want a corrected letter, just let me know. Chuck |
