Was owned by a friend of a friend. I was interested in buying, he interested in selling.
Purchased a couple of pre-'64 Winchester Model 70's from him at same time; 90-95% 257 Roberts Supergrade and 95% 22 Hornet, pre-war. |
Sounds like your friend was quite a sport. Takes a special guy to appreciate a 257 and a Hornet.
Your D looks great. I have had four D-grades from that period and each one had wood that is exceptional when compared to later guns. Hope you enjoy your 16 as much as I have enjoy mine. |
A Supergrade Roberts be still my beating heart! I'm working on a pre war Hornet, time will tell though. Until then there is the std and the carbine to play with.

I have a 12 ga DH from that same era and they are similar. 16's are so versatile. Not to hi-jack the thread but is the x stamped into the forend lug a Remington code for re-blued?

That is my kind of gun. Enjoy it! Too bad none of the hunting seasons are in.
