my turn

Well, now it was my turn for my turkey. I went out Friday the 15th before work to see if i could get a bird. at 4:35 the 1st gobble than 2 more birds went off, good 3 to hunt. Went down to with in a 100 yds of there roost and set up along the small stream. It was the same place my 12 year old grandson shot his bird last year. At 5:00 am made some very loud and excited cuts and yelps. The trio sounded off in perfect timed gobbles, at 5:05 i thought i saw a movement out in front of me, Seems to early for a bird to be down, made some light purrs and a loud gobble, he was down! I saw movement to the right , it was a set of lower wing feathers dragging on the ground. A light purr call, gobbled again and a step forward! Perfect, put the bead of my EH 32 inch 3 frame 10 ga on the white head of the tom and let fly with an 1 1/2 oz load of 6's. Down he went and started flopping around and a prefect jump into the 12 foot wide stream, Turkeys ride low in the water, one more shot to the head to make sure he was down.
Well a very wet bird at 17 lbs ( 1lb of water) 3/4 spurs and 8 3/4 beard.

Good one fellow New Hampshireite:)

My wife brined my bird from this year for 24 hours and we cut it in strips, dipped it in a batter, and deep fried it..not the healthiest way to cook it, but VERY good!!

Charlie, the bird was out a little longer shot than i like to take. it was on the outher side of the stream and had a big flooded spot in front of it so i didn't think it would get any closer, but it was 38 yds after i steped it off. Yes i load my own loads, 39 grs of bludot ,sp 10 wad 1 1/2 oz 6's and roll crimp. i found that the 1 1/2oz of 6's shoot the best patterns for me.
