Dark reciever
 

My two parkers both have fairly bright clear recievers. I am our of town for business and stuck my head in a gun shop and noticed a parker that wasn't in my price range, N grade, but it had something I hadn't noticed before, the reciever isn't blued or anything, but it is really dark gray or tarnished. Doesn't look bad or anything, just from my looking at it, it makes the limited engraving the gun had difficult to see. I am sure this is just something that has to do with the age of the gun, but is it something that can be cleaned up? Just curious.

bright receivers come from handling or polishing

a gun that sits unused and maybe uncleaned develops a "patina"

as long as the patina is not rust or pitting

So what would someone use to clean off the patina?

Ultrasonic cleaner with straight Simple Green. I learned about on this site and it has worked good for me. Rinse well, blow out and flush with water displacement oil from Brownells. Bob

Sorry not interested in a beat up N grade for $4500. The guy behind the counter said it is the owners and isn't really for sale unless someone wanted to pay that high price.

Was just curious, what would have to be done to fix it.

ahh- yeah, there is a shop near here like that

some big bore muzzleloading doubles - 4s 6s 8s - nice quality stuff

nose bleed prices - i asked once - the guy said he doesn't care if he sells them - but if someone wants to pay it - he'll use it to go find another nicer one

If I owned a nice gun, or any gun for that matter, I was interested in selling I wouldn't leave it in a shop for a million people to put their paws all over. Especially if I didn't really want to sell it.
