well today was a unusal day for me yesterday evening it started snowing really hard my boss man sent us home around 1 .30 pm roads got so bad people were stuck on every hill...anyway got home it snowed too sometime in the night..i got up looked outside we must of had 8 inches of the white stuff...had to ride the grandkids on a car hood in the snow pulled it with a for wheeler yep they had some good rides...after 12.00 all of them left and i decided to go scout for turkey sign inb the snow...i rode all over the place around my hose looking for sign but all i seen was rabbit and deer tracks around my house..so decided to go to another spot the snow was melting fast by now making it harder to see sign..i went down to my grandfathers farm which is about 3 miles from my house i took a short cut through the woods to it instead of riding along side the country road.. after i got there i began to see lots of deer tracks i thought this is good ....also began to see several rabbit tracks wish i had some beagles...i rode for about 2 hors looking but not once did i see a turkey track i hope my luck changes.ha...anyway looed down in the gas tank too see how much gas i had it was really low decided i d better head back before i had to walk..made it home then tore down the old 8 ga hammer gun and now i m fixing to get off this thing....charlie

Riding on a car hood

Now that's country:rotf:

They will remember that snow storm forever

I remember those days of sailing down hills in a car hood with my brother. A coal shovel worked pretty well too..... anybody know what coal is? We used to heat our houses with it back in the day.
We used sheets of corrogated box to slide down hills in the summer and fall too.

I remember being on the other end of that coal shovel ( the end where you shovel coal out of a truck and down the coal shoot).

Dean,

Yea, a coal shovel works good until you hit a sharp bump and it slides out from under you and the handle comes back to bash you in the mouth!!! I have a permanent chipped tooth right in front from just that incident. I wouldn't let them cap it because it made a neat place to spit and all the guys thought it was cool. That was some 50 plus years ago, sure wish had done that a little differently.

The wife and I are going to snowshoe our farm property tomorrow and see what we can see for deer, turkeys, etc. We still have probably 20inches of snow on the ground here. Maybe we can catch a coyote hunting.

I have brought many a bucket of coal in to feed the "Warm Morning Coal stove" we had. We also cooked on a kerosene stove, and had no TV just listened to the radio, and on Saturday night< Gene Autry> and the grand ole oprey, those were simple times, neighbors knew each other and were always ready to help if needed. Saturday Matinee 25cents and that got you a drink and popcorn too!, We also had an Ice Box to keep things cool, just hung the sign on the front porch and depending on what color he saw that is how much ice he would leave, the ice man was never to busy on a hot summer day to chip a sliver of ice for a small boy, I looked forward to that! Charlie, too bad you did not locate any turkey sign. I'm not a big turkey hunter anymore, used to be so I don't do much scouting for them. This morning I was about to take the dogs out for a run and happened to look outside first. Ah yes, spring is coming, there they were 12 long beards in a group just outside my back door. Pictures are not very clear and I was not able to get all of them on one frame.

You are more than welcome to come scout around my place - that is, if you don't mind walking through 20 inches of snow and 15 below zero that is forecast for tonight!
