Grand Hotel, Medicine Lodge Kansas
 

If you are traveling through the Red Hills of south central Kansas, through the land of ten thousand acre cattle ranches and quail thickets, you might find yourself by Medicine Lodge. The old Grand Hotel is still there, slowly being renovated by a retired vice president of Sturm Ruger and Co. So if you please, walk with me and take a little tour.

You will see Bill Ruger's overstuffed leather couch from his office. Some of the old posters and art work from Bill Ruger ' office hangs on the walls.

They were hunters of plains game in Africa and the American west , see the antelope heads on the wall.

The old hotel had fallen into disrepair from roof leaks, plaster rotting and falling. The plumbing leaking.

Its now The Gun Room at the Grand Hotel. So stop by, walk around, have a bite to eat in town, then head back to the thickets and stream valleys with the bird dogs and fine old double guns.

Bruce, really enjoyed seeing the subject post. Always look for your postings as they are very informative and educational especially for a new Parker enthusiast. I have always been a fan of Bill Ruger's guns especially the single shot Mk. 1. I also recall an article about a touring car he built based on old Bently and Bugatti designs. I believe that was in one of the old American Sportsman quarterly's. I will have to visit that Hotel if I find myself in that part of Kansas. Keep up the informative post, especially the ones with the great photo's. Hank McRoberts

Great to see old gun rooms with shelves full of guns

I will be by Kinsley next week. But last time we were there was in January and the day was so warm we gave up hunting early and went into the town bar for a late sandwich. A young woman from a well known town family demonstrated how flexible she was by bending her ankle behind her neck while sitting on a bar stool. Perhaps Forest, she was a long lost relative. She was truly gifted and had a real talent.
Now I know you all would have liked to add that to your picture portfolio, purely for athletic reasons of course.

She reminds me of an old joke about ankles and ears - oh, never mind

Perhaps I should find out next pheasant season. I could visit my grandmother's grave if not and there are no birds.

Great post, enjoyed it immensely. Perhaps the wife and I can stop by there on our way to California in May. We have yet to map our route west bound.
