20 gauge load

I am trying to work up a new 20 gauge load using componants on hand. Winchester AA hulls.Winchester primers,Claybuster wad,3/4oz. shot I would like to use the Hodgdon's Universal powder I have been using. What grains would be a light load? I am loading 16 grains with 7/8 oz now but want to go to 3/4 oz loads. Thanks Guy's.....

Your 16 grain load will be ok. Just a bit less chamber pressure, a bit more velocity and a bit less recoil but you may need a bit of filler to get a good crimp. A Cheerio or two or a couple grains of unsweetened puffed rice make a good eco friendly filler.

What Steve says should work for you.

OP;
Keep us posted on it's performance. You'll love 3/4oz.

I load 15.5 gr Universal in a AA case, W209 primer, with 7/8 oz.,CB1078 wad
Hogdons says 1200 fps @ 10,200 psi.
I will be using that and also some 3/4 loads using Green Dot in the UP in my VHE 20.

oh yeah, Daryl is right--I prefer to shoot my 3/4 oz Green Dot loads. I will shoot up my remaining 7/8 oz loads and then stay with those 3/4 loads

Well, I loaded up some 3/4oz #8,s. Winchester AA hull,Winchester 209 primer, Claybuster 7/8 wad,15.5 grains Universal powder and a Polywad speader. Shot them today in my 30" VH choked full/full. All I can say is amazing performance. Great patterns and no recoil to speak of. Whats better they crushed the longest targets on the course at 35/40 yards. I'm in love!
