advise on RST shells
 

im putting in my order this week for 10 boxes of RST shells for a couple different guns, ive never used RST before and would like some opinions..
first off, paper or plastic? anybody have a preference?
second, is there really a big difference if you choose to shoot 2 1/2 over 2 3/4 as far as performance goes?
and 3rd and final, im going turkey hunting in may with an 0 grade parker hammer twist, full/full 2 3/4 chambers... what RST load would you guys use?
i was thinking PREMIUM GRADE "PHEASANT" 1200 VEL 1 1/4 #6 would do the job?? thanks guys

Anything RST makes it absolutely top shelf.

Paper is always fun, just for the sake of nostalgia.

I'd think that load would kill a turkey plenty dead if he was inside 30 yards.

My first longbeard was at forty-two yards with that exact load and I've taken two others at very nearly that range. I will say however that none have been stone dead when I got to them but were definitely down for the count and flapping weakly. I haven't and wouldn't attempt to kill a turkey at greater distances with my DG 12 full/full - I know my gun's limitations with the loads I use. You will not find any better ammo than RST.

I would use those great 1 1/4 ounce pheasants in #6 for pheasant and turkey. I would fill the rest of the ten boxes with the 1 1/16 ounce, roll crimped 2 1/2" paper in #7. This load is the prettiest shell RST makes, with a clear top wad showing the shot, and a beautiful light red paper hull. I watched 5000 of these shells being loaded and the "machine" just loves to load that load.

Is a shot size conversion necessary with RST? When I bought Eley shells a few yrs back, the #5 shot was similar to #6 U.S. shot size.

Destry, I am neither fond or so fond of comparing you to Falstaff, but if you see Falstaff as your alter ego and want to adopt his name in addition to his lifestyle , have at it.

By the way, the name Falstaff is a play on words relating to a certain disability.
