GH Buttstock Questions
I received a nice GH grade butt stock today. Serial no. 241936 with a "2" stamped underneath the serial no.
A- What does the "2" represent? It is not listed in the serialization book, but it shows very late production 1938-42 by Remington. The PGCA research letter request window shows no available records exist for a letter B-Will there be any records for this serial no.? Comparing it to my other guys the width of stock where it joins receiver is 1 5/8" and this compares to same width of other 1 frame guns that I own. I realize all are similar but never exactly the same. C- Any other suggestions to determine what frame size, short of matching it to a receiver? The Pistol grip cap shows Meridian CT and not Ilion NY. D- I am assuming used remaining grip caps? Comments and answers appreciated. |

As far as the grip cap goes, Remington used up Meriden parts. I once owned a very late Remington 28 gauge, serial no. 242103, that had a Meriden grip cap. If I remember correctly, the gun was made in April, 1941.
