Sporting Tales

Just wondered if any one remembers this magazine, was only around for a couple years but had excellent stories by the master story tellers Zane Grey ,Rouke and the like. The Sept Oct issue had a great story about a parker and a lost hunter and his dog, It is titled The Invincible Grouse! by Joel M Vance a great read, The magazine was called Sporting Tales, gary

Not me Gary - Sporting Classics is the only one familiar to me with the word Sporting in the title.

Sure, I remember. A great magazine that featured good old-fashioned story telling as opposed to the current surplus of how-to, where-to and with-who-to stuff. Joel Marvin in Wisconsin started it, but just couldn't keep it going I guess. I have a complete set!

Phil: I have never seen this magazine but would you post a photo of one of the covers. Thanks Thomas

I just was reading that story in Autumn Shadows by Joel. Good story line and pretty good book too.

A forum found on google mentions that the magazine ceased to exist about December of 2003. It sounds like a great rag that didn't get enough exposure.

I suscribed to it and then it just stopped coming with no notification. I still have all my copies. I loved it and wished it had taken off. At the end of the day, when I am tired and relaxing, I do not want to read technical or how to articles--I want to loose myself in those great stories of yesteryear--preferably about grouse/bird dogs, grand men in grand times.

I like real hunting stories and I do not count the stories/advertisements for the latest plush hunting resort as hunting stories.

Mills
I agree with you 100%.
