IMR 700-X Question

With the powder situation the way it is I'm out of Green Dot and can't find any. I can get IMR 700-X. Looking up load info for it I found a load for 1 oz. shot using all the components I used in my Green Dot load. The 700-X load will make 7,500psi at 1100fps. That's 500psi higher and 50fps slower than my Green Dot Load. I want to keep shooting my Twist and Damascus guns so my question is. The 700-X is a faster burning powder than Green Dot, does that mean the pressure will spike faster than the Green Dot?

Is this something to be concerned with????? Or, is the 700-X okay? I'm Still learning about reloading so any info is appreciated.

Thanks

that is all I shoot. yes burns faster. I shoot 15 grs with 7/8 ths oz at 1100fps at around 5500 to 6000 psi and works just fine.

Matt;
Check out www.hodgdonreloading.com. Tons of 700x recipes. Try a 7/8oz. load. You and your old Parker will love them. BTW, nice meeting you and shooting with you at Hausmann's.

If you can find a 3/4 oz. load try that as well. In fact Hodgdon lists 13 of them for 700-X. Looks like about 14.5 grs. would work fine.

I had excellent results with 700X (old DuPont) in 1 oz and 7/8th oz at trap. Light to almost no recoil and crushes the target (out of a SC SBT). When I get done w/ the Red Dot I'm using now I'll return to the newer version of 700X. It's cheaper to buy shells but I'd rather load my own. Besides it is something to do in the depths of an Iowa winter.

Dayrl, It was nice meeting and shooting with you and thanks for the tips on breaking those targets. Also, thanks for the link.

All, I appreciate the info provided on the 700-X. I need to get a couple powder bushings for my Mec and weight the drops and I'll be ready to stuff some hulls. This powder shortage is for the birds..........

Darn, wish I'd seen this post earlier. Local store had a 4lber of 700X, but i had never used it. After I saw the posts I called, and you guessed it, it had just walked out the door. I did pick up a few pounds of WAA Lite--at a high price,to use in my 12's, but happy to get it! I can save my other powder for my 16's and 20's. I am going to start buying whatever powder I can find, and worry about how I'm going to use it later.
BTW, Matt it was good to meet and shoot with you at Hausmann's, hope you make it back next year.

Harold, I was able to get a 8 pound keg of 700-X, just need to get a couple powder bushings I don't already have to check the weights on the powder drops. I need to find some 20/28 for my 16ga.'s, that is like finding hen's teeth. Last week got my new to me 16 and had a handful of shells to run thru her...... bid tease it was.

Great meeting and shooting with you and the guy's from Michigan. Heck, COB isn't as nasty as he thinks he is.
