Barrel Marking Question
 

I have a set of barrels in the white, and this "horse shoe" stamping? Anyone know what this stands for?

Greg, We know that the stamp is seen on Remington era guns but it's meaning is not understood. My guess and that is all it is is that it's an inspectors mark.

These barrels are marked #1 frame, 3'5" pre struck weight, horse shoe and nothing else. They are in the white, no serial number, no barrel mating or dolls head extension and I was told they were for a trojan receiver that came with the barrels.

Could they have came from the Dan Lefever Co.? I understand they had some Parker barrels in the white. If so how did they end up with these barrels and not Del Grego & Sons?

Any info or theories about this appreciated.

They could have very well come from Frank Lefever. We know that they ended up with some Parker barrels when Remington ceased production. I have a set of unfinished barrels here also.

As I understand it, the Remington parts got divided between Delgrego and Lefever. And then when Lefever went out, other parties bought out their parts. A lot of NOS stuff from the Lefever operation is still kicking around.

Besides the barrels, the Lefever operation in Lee Center, NY, had the original Parker barrel matting machine. After some management changes and business closure, the machine has disappeared. I wonder where it is now.

I think you will find the Tony Galazan purchased the matting machine, whether he still owns it or not ,is he question.

Simmons in the midwest said they had it and as recently as 2011 said they could make a rid sans engraving for @ 1K installed and re rust blued.

Tony did at one time have it if not still now. A local engraver/gunsmith I know worked for most all the bigger shops in one way or another over the years. He said to y had both the Parker and the Winchester matting machine. But neither of them were actually used. Instead of using a 100 year old wooden framed machine, they could just do anything by CNC.
I don't know about Simmons. When I recently spoke with them about matting work on a Parker, they did not seem very willing to talk to me about it once I mentioned "concave rib".
