A question for non-USA forum members
I would like to know if finding ammunition or reloading supplies are in short supply where you live. Here in the United States, we have a situation where ammunition is in short supply. Today, on this forum, a post was made saying that the manufacturer of RST shot shells can not get powder for their manufacturing.
I am curious, is it the same in other countries? |
A well-considered question! It wasn't long ago when offshore component/powder companies were big into the US market. Scot Powders come to mind. I believe Israel also has large powder manufacture capabilities...
Plus Italy, Russia and Mexico seem to have enough powder to make lots of ammunition... |
So what is preventing the foreign powders from being imported to the US? The market here is HUGE.
I was lead to believe that much of our powder is produced in Australia.
One factor that Alex from RST explained to me at last years annual meeting is that container ships were allowed to put four containers of powder per ship. Now the government has put a limit of two per ship in place.
Dave, that is undoubtedly a factor but the root cause may be that Thales Australia Ltd (Australia Munitions) that makes many of the popular Hodgdon powders has an ongoing, unspecified production interruption and is also beset with much increased demand for its own ADI brand name powders.
Hopefully, demand will support some US production.
Difficult is an understatement,up here in the great white north all suppliers get components from your side of the border ... plus with me being from Newfoundland ,makes matters worse ... stores that carry reloading gear are very scarce (maybe 2-3 across the whole island ) you take what you can get ,otherwise order yourself and pay outrageous shipping and haz mat fees:cuss:
