"No shoulder in chamber"

"No shoulder in chamber" This is from a Parker letter. Does anyone know why a gun would be ordered this way? Circa 1893 10ga hammerless. Thanks Craig Larter

Craig,

What do you see when you look into the chamber?

Is there any evidence of a forcing cone?

My 1890 hammergun has an actual shoulder with no forcing cone. Probably designed for all-brass shells.

no distinct step for brass shells would be my thought as well
