Given each of those auctions has multiple bidders for 8 lbs of Unique over $300 plus shipping indicates there is a very serious problem in the supply chain for progressive powders. Unique is useful in many handgun loadings and I am sure that helps push the prices up but over $300? It's obvious the bidders want to reload and shoot and they want it now.

The 8 lbs of Red Dot is not as bad but over $200, wow.

I'll add a Wow but actually I'm not too surprised. From what I've seen it's a sellers market for powder. Last week my local sporting goods store got a few 1 pound bottles of Red Dot. $29.95 plus tax and no discount for friends. I was there this morning for something and the RD was gone.

JFI - I talked with a friend in the industry last week and learned that NG production had been reduced when mining, quarrying etc went to stick emulsions, and the remaining production is heavily regulated. Net it seems there's a "shortage" of NG for making our modern double-base shotgun powders.

Net there is a "shortage" of NG. As most here probably know, NG is a percentage component of all modern double-base shotgun powders.

As you probably know Nitro Glycerin is used as a medicine for those suffering a heart attack. NG injectable drugs are on the current FDA list of drug shortages starting last month. If NG is in short supply why don't the ammo companies, NRA etc. tell us that, instead of telling us the current powder shortage is being caused by increase demand?

Increased demand will certainly strain the resources used for manufacture ..... which came first, chicken or the egg?

$405, $385 and $365 plus $35 shipping for 8 lbs of Unique. Houston we have a problem!

Some people have more money than sence and it show's here.

Rich I don't think anyone who has reloaded before and has an IQ over 70 would pay that kind of money unless they were desperate for product. These kind of auction prices would have never happened if powder was available as it had been before Jan 2013 or so. It is more indicative of a severe shortage of powder than several foolish people. To think otherwise is whistling past the grave yard.

i would try VERY hard to find a different load withan available powder befor I spent $300 for an 8lb jug but then I won't spend $10 for a box of 22LR ammo either.

I know powder availability is a concern for RST as well.
